Kelley and Duane Yock took over Yock’s Landing in uptown Mount Vernon March 1, 2018, with a goal of running a clean, friendly neighborhood bar.
During the pandemic year, Yock’s completed a number of the projects on their 10-year renovation plan for the building. Among the building upgrades are a few new murals which highlight several of Mount Vernon’s athletes who have gone on to play with the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Upgrades continue in and outside with a new air filtration system and new flooring.
Yock’s Landing offers a variety of specials, including Happy Hour from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. They offer nine tap beers; including two rotating lines with local or seasonal offerings when possible. The bar runs several pop-up specials, so it’s always good to stop in and see what’s new. Kelley reminds everyone about the deluxe bloody marys available on the first Saturday of the month and every Iowa football game. Regular bloody marys can be purchased every Saturday for $3.50.
Yock’s doesn’t disappoint for entertainment. They have game nights on Wednesdays and card bingo every other Sunday, 3-5 p.m. They’re planning Saturday euchre tournaments. They continue to receive overwhelmingly positive feedback on the live music and karaoke, and people should look for more to come.
Kelley says they enjoy their themed potlucks at the bar. And they still offer Lotzza Motzza pizza and Bavarian soft pretzels served with hot cheese. They support other food establishments, and encourage to-go orders from other local eating establishments so you can eat in and still meet up with your friends.
“If we can’t all work together as business owners, then we don’t belong in business making our Main Street great,” Kelley said.
Duane and Kelley are working to install a new deck out back to expand the outdoor seating for Yock’s Landing.
Kelley says people should like their Facebook page to get the latest information on events and what’s new. “Stop in and give us a try,” she said.
