The Mount Vernon-Lisbon varsity boys’ soccer team took to Cornell Soccer Field Tuesday, May 4 for a 3-0 win over the visiting South Tama Trojans.
Jake Hunter scored two goals for the Mustangs in the first half, and the team took a 2-0 lead into the half.
JP Hoagland added a third in the second half. Eli Dickson aided the effort with two assists.
Aden Grudzinski, Mustang goalie, was key to the win with 13 saves at the goal.
“Our defense did their job of tracking the attacking players, and communicating and switching on the back line,” said Mustangs head coach Kevin Murray.
“This is the best effort the defense has put forth, and a lot of pressure was put on them at the beginning of the first half. In the second half, after we went up 3-0, there was consistent pressure on them for the last 25 minutes,” said Murray.
“Our defensive mids, attacking mids and forwards have been consistent all year with their ability to work together. Tonight, they clicked. We are a well-balanced team, and when we put together a complete game great things happen,” he said.
