Liberty High’s varsity boys avenged an 82-72 loss at home on Jan. 4 to rival City High with a one-point win in the Hawks’ new nest Friday, Jan. 28. The Lightning shocked the Little Hawks 53-52 after tying 12-all at the end of the first period, leading 28-21 at halftime, and taking a 41-36 advantage into the final quarter.

Da’Shon Fisher led Liberty with 18 points, Luke Ramsey produced ten including a pair of three-point baskets. Trey Hughes also sank a pair of three’s, Gage Kampman led in rebounds with six.

The win improved the Bolts to 6-7 and dropped the red birds to 4-9.

Liberty travels to Iowa City West High Friday, Feb. 4 for a girl-boy doubleheader with a 7:30 p.m. boys start. The Bolts will be seeking revenge for a 74-51 home loss to the Trojans Dec. 10 in the second game of the season. Linn-Mar visits Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. and will be looking to avenge a 49-36 loss Jan. 8 in the Wells Fargo Shootout at Coe College. Cedar Rapids Washington will host Liberty Thursday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in a contest originally scheduled for Friday, Feb. 11.
